National parks in the North

Mae Ta Krai National Park

Location
Mae Ta Khrai national park covers 1229.8 square kilometres in San Khampaeng and Doi Saket districts of Chiang Mai province.

Topography
It is ruggedly mountainous with average elevation 400 to 1,947 metres above sea level. Limestone is kind of the mountain here. Mixed deciduous forest covers most area. Hill evergreen forest grows dense around valley and headwater areas.

Places to visit
There are many dams which include Huay Pha Paen, Huay Kamin, Huay Bong, Huay Mae Ta Khrai ,Mae Guang, and Mae On Dam.
Muang On Cave located at San Khampaeng district. It is a big cave and you can see the traces of history inside.

Accommodations and facilities
Campsites are available but you have to bring your own tents and sleeping bags. Please contact 053-818 348 to get more information.

How to get there
The park is located 50 kilometres from Chiang Mai. Take Chiang Mai - San Khampaeng road to get to the park.
